CHRISTMAS MEETING
The last meeting of the Kopuawhara Women’s Institute for the year was held in the Y.M.C.A. Hall, No. 3 Camp, on Thursday, December 7, this also being the Christmas meeting. Four visitors were welcomed and a social afternoon was spent. Mrs. Hilliard presented the secretary with a bouqriet, as it. was the secretary’s first day back after an extended absence. The president and secretary pro tem also were presented with flower sprays, made by Mrs. Hilliard.
A short discussion on the dress making classes followed, and so far 13 women have given their names as pupils. A competition, musical parcels, organised by Mrs. Highet, was won by Mrs. Bennett. Mrs. Stewart’s competition, names of flowers, was won by Mrs. Hilliard. Other competitions resulted:—Names of songs: Mrs. Gibson. Best frock costing not more than 7s 6d and to be worn by the competitor: Mrs. Gibson, 1; Mrs. Pemberton, 2. Cold sweet: Mrs. Swannell, 1: Mrs. Gibson, 2. Bloom: Mrs. Hilliard, 1; Mrs. Gibson, 2.
An exchange of Christmas presents was carried out successfully. A community sing song was much enjoyed, and a demonstration of ‘‘Boomps-a-Daisy” caused, much merriment. The members of the committee were the hostesses, and a tasty afternoon tea was served.
