MATCHES IN GISBORNE SECOND SENIOR A ROUND TO-DAY’S EARLY SCORES Playing on the Oval to-day, senior A grade club teams in the Poverty Bay Cricket Association’s competition opened the second round of their series, with City leading the other three competing teams by eight points. Senior B grade players continued their first-round series, which will be completed after the holidays. To-day’s play was the last before the Christmas and New Year suspension of club play, and interest centred in the performances of players who later will represent the district in the Auckland provincial tournament, and in the Hawke Cup challenge game against Waikato. Scores at . 2.30 p.m., in matches played on the Oval, were as under:Senior A Grade Old Boys v. G.H.5.0.8. —Old Boys, first innings, 6 runs for the loss of no wickets (P. Reynolds, 3 not out). City v. Marist.—City, first innings no wickets down for 23 runs _(P. HDow 11 runs, A. McLean 8). Senior B Grade United B v. G.H.5.0.8. WhiteUnited B, first innings, one wicket down for 55 runs (C. Aitken 21 not out, B. Birrell 25 not out; Sheppard 1 wicket for 15 runs). Civil Service v. Gisborne Club. — Civil Service, first innings three wickets down for 18 runs (A. Bignall 11; B. C. Jeffreys, 2 wickets for 10 runs). City v. GH.5.0.8. Blue.—City, first innings one wicket down for 17 (F. Whiteley 13 not out, A. McLeod, one wicket for 7 runs).
