AUSTRALIAN REVISION TRAINING OWN MEN £50,000,000 PROJECT AID FROM BRITAIN (Elec. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed, Dec. IC. 2.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. IC. The Prime Minister. Mr. R. G. Menzies. officially announced that Australia had undertaken to provide 26,000 men—lo,4o) pilots and 15,600 observers, wireless operators, and gunners—as an initial contribution to the Empire air scheme. Most of the men will be trained in Australia. This adjustment of the original scheme under which most of the men were to have been trained in Canada was made on the representations of the Commonwealth Government, which emphasised tine value that participation in the scheme would be t- Australia’s security if the greater part of the training was completed within tlie Commonwealth. Mr. Menzies revealed that Britain will mane substantial contributions to Australia's scheme in finance, aircraft, and instructors.
The total cost of the scheme to Australia within the next three years is estimated to be not less than 1.50,000,000.
