EMPIRE STAND
UNITY IN WAR PART BY DOMINIONS FINANCE AND MEN COMMON BURDEN (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 2.15 p.m. RUGBY, Dec. 14. Towards the close of his statement in the House of Commons to-day, the Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, spoke of the practical demonstrations of Empire co-operation during recent weeks. He said that Australia and New Zealand had announced the intention of dispatching trained land forces at an early date to fight overseas and he referred to the Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and South African help for the air defence which had been detailed in the statement by the Air Minister, Sir Kingsley Wood. Mr. Chamberlain added that the war had a serious adverse effect on the colonial Budgets but the colonial peoples had clearly shown thejr determination to contribute their full share towards the final victory and they loyally accepted new measures of taxation which were required, partly for their own administrative defence services and partly to help the United Kingdom by direct financial contributions.”
