MOTU FLOWER SHOW EXCELLENT GARDENS ANNUAL PICNIC HELD The Motu School children held thenannual flower show and picnic during the week, and the children were congratulated by the judge, Mrs. Richardson, upon their efforts, Mrs. Richardson saying that the competition was so keen that she frequently had difficulty in separating the exhibits in making the awards. Mr. Lewis said that the children’s home garden plots, which he judged, were at least 50 per cent better than last year. After the judging of the flower show. Ross Donaldson, the leader of the home garden club, thanked the judges for their services. Many parents and friends were present at the picnic and prize-giving held in the Motu Hall. Lunch and afternoon tea were served by the ladies, while sweets and ices were served throughout the day. Following a programme of games and races, prizes were presented. Each school child was presented with a book, and younger children were given toys. The dux of the school, . Margaret Fisher, was presented with a book donated by Miss J. Adams. As a mark of appreciation for the efforts on their behalf during the year, the children made presentations to their teachers. On Thursday 14 of the senior members of the home garden club were taken to see the winning home garden entered by Donald and Jean Nisbctt, and which secured full marks. After an inspection of the plot, soft drinks and cakes were provided for the party by Mrs. Nisbett.
