Warning From Pheasants
i Startled calls from pheasants in the early hours -of Monday morning heard by residents on the outskirts of Rotorua were the first indication of earth tremors. Those who heard the pheasants stated that it was a few seconds after this that they felt the shock and heard the rumble. This was about 4.30 in the morning. Together with a shock at about i 1.30, it was one of the heaviest felt in Rotorua for several years.
