County Housing

Members of the Cook County Council and executive officers spent Tuesday and yesterday visiting various portions of the county inspecting sites for roadmen’s cottages and attending also to other items of county business that applied to the areas visited. On Tuesday councillors visited the Waimata district and yesterday they travelled to the Waingake area.

Maori Remanded

A remand until to-morrow morning was granted to-day when a shearer, Matiu Nia Nia, aged 49, appeared before Messrs. D. W. Coleman and E. Harris, J.Ps., in the Police Court on a charge of having been intoxicated while operating a motor vehicle yesterday at Makaraka. Bail was fixed at £SO, with a surety fbr a similar amount. Mr. J, deV. W. Blathwayt, who appeared for Nia Nia, made a request to have the case heard this morning, but the Bench ordered a remand.
