INTERNED IN GERMANY

AUSTRALIANS’ POSITION LONDON, Nov. 28. It is feared that the Australians still in Germany will be detained there throughout the war because of the difficulty of arranging exchanges with Australia, although it may be possible to exchange Australians for Germans now interned in Britain. It is understood, however, that the British Government is not enthusiastic about such a proposal. The Agents-General are making an effort to clarify the problems arising regarding Australians who are resident in Germany. A typical case is that of a New South Wales girl who married an Austrian and is at present in Vienna. She has written to the New South Wales Agent-General, Mr. Cliff Hay, declaring that she does not desire to leave' Austria, where she Is free and happy. Mr. Hay is endeavouring to prevent another Australian girl at present in London from going to Prague, where she intends to marry a Czech, after which the couple plan to go to Australia.
