The Seaside Drive
Sir, —In anticipation of the near completion of the new seaside drive, the following rhyme is submitted as an aid to visitors in picking out the beauty-spots:— Oh, let us go .a-motoring Beside the sad sea shore, Along our brand-new scenic drive Along the Oneroa. ’Tis there we’ll smell the septic tank And view the abattoir, And maybe other sights as well Out by the old Why Paw. We’ll skirt along that concrete wall That fences in the gaol, Then idle past the rubbish dump, With scents that never fail To tickle our olfactory nerves; But let us draw a veil Across its Thirty Thousand smells That sweetly scent the gale. And now hard by the winding track Some carcase may be found Of some poor beast the latest flood Has cast uip on the ground. These sights will lure the tourist here From countries far around, And some may smile, but some will sneer At charming Gisborne town. ONEROA.
