Colonel L. M< vlnglis, M.C., has been appointed to command the 27th Machine-gun Battalion of the Special Military Force. He will take over his duties at Burnham this week. Dr. E. J. Stuckey, who has been a missionary in China for 33 years, is visiting New Zealand, before going to Australia on furlough. He is accompanied by Mrs. Stuckey. A long association with shipping on the Kaipara harbour has been ended by the retirement of Captain H. G. Menzies, of the Kaipara Steamship Company.
The resignations of Miss S. Brown and Mr. A. F. Brewer, members of the teaching staff of the secondary department of the Wairoa District High School, were received with regret at a meeting of the Wairoa School Committee on Thursday evening. It was decided that letters of thanks be forwarded to them for their services. —Special.
Notification was received from the Hawke’s Bay Education Board by the Wairoa District High School Committee on Thursday evening that Miss K. M. Moran and Mr. G. F. Ness had been appointed to the primary department teaching staff as from February 1 next.—Special.
“I have to inform the committee that the part-time commercial teacher, Mrs. K. Wade, is resigning her position,” reported the headmaster, Mr. E. E. C. Boyes, at a meeting of the Wairoa School Committee on Thursday evening. “Arrangements will have to be made for her position to be filled. I would like to express my thanks to Mrs. Wade for temporarily filling the position.—Special.
