WOOL CHEQUES
GISBORNE ON MONDAY FIRST WARTIME PAY-OUT COAST FFAV DAYS LATER CLIPS STILL POUR IN Gisborne's first .war-time wool cheque will be distributed among growers on Monday, while the Coast farmers who had their clips appraised in Tokomaru Eay and Tolaga .Bay, 'will be paid a few days later. These payments are a portion of the £476.910 announced yesterday as the amount for distribution following the appraisements in Auckland, Gisborne Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay. The Auckland wool appraised exceeded 20,000 bales and that of Gisborne and the Coast under 10,000 bales, so that less than onethird of the amount quoted will come to Gisborne and the Coast. The chairman of the Gisborne Woolbrokers Association, Mr. A. F. Salmon, stated to-day that arrangements had been made for the Gisborne cheques to be distributed on Monday, and while the exact date for the Coastal distribution had not been fixed yet, it was hoped that it would be only a few days later.
Wool is still coming into Gisborne in large quantities, the fine spell of weather recently assisting the shearing. Arrangements have been made for additional storage space for wool, and some buildings that have not held wool for 20 years are being requisitioned. No shortage of storage space is expected. Rapid progress is being made with the erection of Messrs. Williams and Kettle's new wool store in Awapuni road. Overtime is being worked in order to secure its, speedy completion and it is expected to be in use before Christmas.
