Gisborne Wedding

The Church of Christ, Roebuck road, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday, December 2, when Phyllis Mary, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hardy, Lyndhurst street, was married to Lawrence 'Howard, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Forge, Wainui road.

The ceremony was performed hy Pastor L. R. Usmar, assisted by the Rev. F. E. Leadley, and Miss Rene Covic presided at the organ.

Lovely pink and white rhododendrons and Russell lupins were used with artistic effect in the decoration of the church, which was further enhanced with an archway of sweet peas and pink roses. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in a frock of white slipper satin. The rucked bodice was made with a latticed neckline accented with a self-toned flower and he bias-cut skirt terminated in a long train. Her tulle veil was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom, and white satin shoes, were worn with stockings to tone. An exquisite shower bouquet completed the ensemble.

The bride was attended by her sister. Miss Ethel Hardy, and Miss Margaret Forge, sister of the bridegroom. Each wore a modified Empire frock of teal Iblue shear, showing a heart-shaped neckline, gathered butterfly sleeves,, and a flared skirt. A silver halo studded with pink and blue flowers made a becoming headdress and each bridesmaid carried a shower bouquet of mixed blooms in delicate pink tonings. Mr. Winton Hall was best man, and Mr. Fred Forge was groomsman. Motor-Cycle Escort. Non-commissioned officers and men of the Hawke’s Bay Regiment formed a guard of honour at the ehurclf, and seven motor-cyclists, representing the Motor-Cycle Corps, escorted the bridal car to the Bon Accord Lounge, where a delightful reception was held. Mrs. Hardy, mother of tire bride, was wearing an elegant frock of Continental crepe printed in floral design with a coat of navy blue sheer and a matching hat. Navy accessories and a bouquet of pastel-tinted roses completed her toilette. Mrs. Forge, mother of the bridegroom, wore a graceful navy blue floral frock with a navy coat and tailci ed hat to match. Her bouquet was composed of crimson ancl cream roses.

Mrs. R. Sisterson, Te Aroha* sister, af the bride, chose a frock of crepe romaine in gold tonings, and a cream hat.

The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a double string of pearls, ancl to the bridesmaids, Misses Hardy and Forge, a necklace inset with teal blue stones and gold signet ring, respectively. The bride and bridegroom left later for their honeymoon, which is to be spent in a camping tour of the north. The bride travelled in a delphinium blue frock patterned in contrasting shades of blue, worn with a navy bolero, a matching hat, and navy accessories.

Garden Party at Ormond

Yesterday afternoon Mrs. R. Graham and Mrs. W. Sherrill' were joint hostesses at a delightful garden party at the home of the former at Ormond for Miss K. Sherriff, who is to be married shortly to Mr. C. K. Lowe, Bruce Bay, West Southland. The weather was all that could be desired for an out-door function, and tennis was enjoyed by a number of the guests, while others, less energetically inclined, revelled in the rich summer beauty of the picturesque garden. Great sprays of pink rambler roses, early charm dahlias and Japanese irises were artistically combined in the adornment of the drawing-room, and in the dining-room, where, tea was served, a bowl of mixed flowers in gold and bronze tonings beautified the charmingly arranged table. During the afternoon each guest autographed her favourite recipe in a handsome book, a gift of the hostesses. which was presented' later to Miss Sherriff.

Mrs. Graham was wearing a" smart frock of navy blue cloque printed in a conventional design in green, white and clover tonings and a white straw hat.

Mrs. Sherriff wore a graceful frock of navy blue georgette accented with touches of white.

The guest of honour .chose a becoming frock of teal blue and white printed French crepe and a small blue hat

The bride and bridegroom were the recipients of many congratulatory telegrams and charming gifts. The wedding was 'to have been celebrated on December 23, but as the bridegroom is a sergeant in the Signal Platoon of the First Echplon of the Special New Zealand Military Force existing arrangements had to be cancelled and hasty plans made for the ceremony. Mrs. Taylor accompanied her husband to Wellington.

Steam unravelled wool over a saucepan, and it will be in shape for re-knitting. The point is to have plenty of steam.
