STEADY BUYING SHEEP FOR WAIKATO VALUES UNCHANGED Steady buying continues in forward deals of Gisborne district sheep for dispatch to the Waikato early in the new year, and present indications are that the number Involved should be approximately the same as last year, and at least no fewer. According to a Waikato report, vendors of breeding ewes are trying to secure Is Gd to 2s per head more than recent quotations, following the announcement of the wool schedule from Auckland during the week, but quotations secured in Gisborne to-day showed that no change had been made in the buying rates. The Waikato report also stated that buyers were adopting a cautious policy of “wait and see." Gisborne prices quoted jo-day for ewes are:--Two-tooths, 25s to 265; 5-year-olds, 20s to 2Gs; 6-year-olds, 16s to 17s. A few mobs of wethers have been sent north already. Quotations for these also are unchanged at 14s to 15s for 2-tooths and 16s to 17s for 4-toOths. Seasonal conditions in the Waikato have been more favourable than last year, and lambing percentages have been infinitely better. The feed position is good. A further sale of East Coast cattle was scheduled to be held in the Waikato this week, and vendors were expected to reap the benefit of the recent rain. DIVIDEND PASSED CLAUDE NEON LIGHTS HALF PROFITS IN TAXES A profit of £SOOB is reported by Claude Neon Lights of New Zealand, Limited, for the year ended September 30. This result is struck after provision for all charges, including depreciation and taxation, and compares with £5864 a year ago. The value of contracts currect is stated at £218,276, which is £30,409 in excess of last year. With £5210 brought in there is a balance of undistributed profit of £10,213, which the directors propose to carry forward. The report mentions, as indicated in the chairman's speech last year, that the directors consider it advisable not to recommend a dividend. In view of heavy payments for income and social security taxes, amounting to £6004. and due early next year, it is considered advisable to conserve funds. Taxation, it is stated, now represents 10s 1-Jd in the £l. as against 7s 6d in the £1 last year, and 5s lOd five years ago. It is anticipated that unless there are unforeseen circumstances dividends will be resumed next year.
