RUSSIAN CLAIMS
ADVANCE IN FINLAND UP TO FORTY MILES OCCUPATION OF TOWNS RAILWAY LINE CUT (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. IJIS p.m. .RUGBY, Dec. 7. The first comprehensive survey of the Russian General Staff's plans is given in a Leningrad communique, which claims considerable advances from the direction of Murmansk. It is stated: “The Red troops advanced 20 .miles south of Pets a mo. In the Petrozavodsk and Prozosero (possibly in the vicinity of K'arelia) zones the Soviet troops advanced over the railway line between Nurmes and Oensuu. penetrating 40 miles. At the eastern section of ithe Karelian Isthmus, the Finns’ IMaginot-Kirke lino along the Vuo.ski water system has been broken iby artillery and troops advancing northwards. At the western section of the Karelian Isthmus, (the Soviet troops occupied the town of Kiviniemi and are reported to Ibe on the railway line leading to Kexhohn and a't stations on the railway leading to Wiiipuri and also in villages on the coast of the Gulf of Finland.” These claims mean that the main Finnish defences on the eastern sector of the Karelian Isthmus are broken. r.)
