Last Night’s Forecast General situation: An extensive depression is crossing the Dominion, the lowest pressures at 3 p.m. being in Canterbury. Forecast: Winds, strong northerly at first in eastern portions of the country, but a change to moderate to fresh westerly or south-westerly advancing from the west. Seas: In New Zealand waters, moderate on the East Coast, rather rough to rough but decreasing on the West Coast. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh west to south winds and moderate to rather rough seas. Weather: Changeable, with showers at times in most districts, but conditions improving later, except in the far south-west. Temperatures: Moderate to cool. To-day’s North Island Report Blue skies were general throughout the North Island this morning. Winds from north to west were light to gentle breezes from Napier northwards, but moderate to strong to the south. The barometer had a rising tendency. Temperatures at 9 a.m. were:—Auckland, 63 degrees; Tauranga, 67j Opotiki. 63; East Cape, 62; Gisborne, 66; Napier, 69: Wellington, 62. Seas were generally smooth to slight, but rough to the south. Midday Forecast General situation: Yesterday’s depression has passed westwards and barometers are rising generally. Forecast: Light lo moderate winds from a westerly quarter. Weather: Fair and mild. Seas: Slight.
