GARDEN CIRCLE

KAWAKAWA MEETS (Herald Correspondent.) A glorious day favoured the Kawakawa Garden Circle on Tuesday, when the December meeting was held at “Ewdness,” the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Halliwell. There was a fair attendance, and four visitors, Misses Biddles, Hopley, and J. Rudland and Deaconess Esther Brand, 1 were warmly received. The roll call, “Questions," was well responded to. A short reading from the circle gift book, which contained useful knowledge for gardeners, was given by the hostess, who also read about asters.

The social competition was tied for by Deaconess Esther Brand and Mrs. C. Hughes. The judges of the Garden Circle competitions 1 were Mrs. Halliwell, Misses Hopley and Biddles. Results were: —Bowl of Mixed Flowers. —Mrs. C. Cowan, 1; Mrs. N. Branson and Mrs. IT. Fairlie, tied, 2; Mrs. C. Hughes. 4. Polyanthus Roses.—Mrs. S. Rudland, 1; Mesdames 11. Fairlie and N. Branson, 2; Mrs. C. Hughes, 4; Bulbs.—Mrs. C. Hughes, 1; Mrs. N. Branson. 2: Mrs. IT. Fairlie, 3. Juniors Floral Design.—Misses M. Hughes and D. Cowan, tied, 1. Peas. — Mrs. P. Taylor, 1: Mrs. N. Branson, 2. Lettuce. —Mrs. C. Cowan, 1: Mrs. H. Fairlie, 2; Mrs. C. Hughes, 3.

Tennis was followed by a delight ful afternoon tea.
