POPULAR DRUID ILL TURANGANUI MEETS The halif-yearly meeting of Turanganui Lodge, No. 7, U.A.0.D., held in ithe lodge ‘room last night, was well attended. The A.D., Bro. L. Allwood, presided and was supported by a full muster of officers. Seasonal greetings were received from the Grand Lodge executive, taking the form of a calendar, which was presented to the A.D. as a memento of his term of office. The principal 'business was the receiving of the balance sheet, which was presented by the secretary, Bro. M. W. Craig. The auditors report was most satisfactory, the different funds being in a sound position. This occasion marked the sixtieth balance sheet and the completion of 30 years of service with the lodge by ißro. Craig. On 'the motion of ißro. Wilkes, a hearty vote of appreciation was carried by acclamation. The balance sheet and auditors’ report were unanimously adopted, the mover being Bro. A. Craill, P.D.P. The arch bard, Bro. W. P. Parker, reported on the sick members, and general regret was expressed when i! was announced that a very old and popular Druid, Bro. W. Town, was seriously ill. Sick pay totalling £35 was passed for payment. One candidate for membership was elected and initiated, and, on the conclusion of the ceremony, the A.D., Bro. L. Allwood, was warmly congratulated on the impressive manner in which he had rendered his charge. A challenge was received from Lodge Wairoa for a contest for the De Costa Ritual Cup. It Was decided to accept this, the date to be fixed later.
The ceremony of installing the officers of the lodge was held over until next lodge night, in order to give the ,D.P. an opportunity of attending. The question of procuring further equipment for the expansion of indoor bowling amongst the members of friendly societies .was favourably considered, and Bros. ,M. W. Craig and F. :S. Williams were appointed to investigate the matter with the Manchester Unity of Oddifellows. A donation of £5 from the social fund was made towards the children’s Christmas party, which is to be held in the Orange Hall on Saturday .week. The committee has the arrangements well in hand, and it is predicted that the children who attend will 'have a jolly afternoon, as everything possible is being done to make the gathering one of real pleasure to everyone.
