CHAMPIONS TO APPEAR GISBORNE ATHLETICS VISITING STARS SATURDAY CARNIVAL The prospects of again seeing in 'action the famed Gisborne athlete Graham Quinn, one of New Zealand's champion runners for several seasons, together with P. F. Sharpley, the present holder of the Dominion 100yds fiat, 120yds hurdles and 220yds hurdles titles, .give rare attraction to the programnie to be submitted at the Childers Road Reserve on Saturday evening when a gala night is being held' by the Gisborne Amateur Athletic'and Harrier Club. Quinn has been training with a view to again : contesting Dominion honours at the Centennial games early next year and is reported to bo reaching the form which has made him a favourite on grounds throughout New Zealand. Sharpley also has been performing well lately.

Other prominent visitors will include the Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay champions R. V. Phillips, G. I. Bickerstaff, P. Begley, R. Morley, and R. Johnson.

These athletes are members of a Hawke’s Bay team of 11 who are making a trip to Gisborne specially for the meeting and, with the cream of the local district track and field events men also competing, the contests should prove replete with attraction to all followers of sport.

The events for which members of the Hawke’s Bay team have already nominated are as follows: —

100yds Senior Handicap.—P. F. Sharpley, G. I. Bickerstaff, G. Morgan, R. V. Phillips.

220yds. Senior Handicap.—P. F Sharpley, G. I. Bickerstaff, G. Morgan, R. V. Phillips.

440yds. Senior Handicap.—P. Begley, G. I. Bickerstaff. 880yds. Senior Flat Handicap;—J. Edmondson, R. Morley. Mile Senior Flat Handicap.—J. Edmondson, R. Morley.

880yds Junior Flat Handicap.—C, Anneur.

Exhibition Hurdle Race.—P. F. Sharpley, G. I. Bickerstaff, P. Begley

Shot Put—S. McKenzie, R. Johnson, G. Morgan. Pole Vault.—R. Johnson. In addition the manager of the team, R. Cabot, a New Zealand champion of recent years, is to give an exhibition walk over half a mile.
