CATTLE FAIR
DROP IN VALUES STORE AND BEEF MARKETS There was a “sticky” sale for stores at to-day’s Matawhero Cattle Fair and values showed a fair reduction from those of the previous fair. Beef rates also declined. The 'attendance of the public was smaller than usual, but outside buyers operated to a moderate extent. The condition of the yarding was varied, there being some excellent pens, but many came forward in rough condition. The individual pen prices were:— Yearling Steers.—Thirty-nine Hereford, medium pen, £2 12s Gd; 24, good condition and size, Hereford and P.A., tp) £2 10s; 19, ditto, Hereford, (p) £2 10s; 48, fresh condition, P.A., some Hereforcl-P.A.-cross, £4 Is; 17, Hereford and P.A., in good order, £4 2s. Yearling Heifers. Twenty-three, medium, Hereford, £1 18s; 45, well grown, fresh, P.A., £8 12s; 35, P.A., good store condition, £2 15s; 26, P.A., average size and condition, (p) £2 17s Gd; 20, fairly good size and condition, £2 7s: 21, purebred P.A., with size and condition, £3 13s.
Empty Cows.—Sixteen, hard to store condition, £2 ss; 19, mostly black, good store condition, £3 14s; 7, store to good condition, £4 ss; 14, Hereford, good condition, £3 14s; 9, P.A., forward, £4 19s; 14, P.A., all kiliable, £5 18s.
Cows and Calves.—Twenty-eight station cows, light to store condition, 28 good coloured calves, £4 Is; 14, mixed colours, fair conditioned cows, and 14 calves, £2 10s; 14 Hereford and P.A. medium condition cows, and 14 calves, £4 Is; 15 of each, very plain, £2 12s; 20 poor P.A. cows and 20 black calves, £4 10s; 8 good condition cows, and 8 good coloured calves, £4 15S.
Two-year Heifers.—Eighty-two, well grown, an even line, fresh condition, P.A., £5; 24, black, good store condition, £3 14s; 32, P.A., an even line, a good pen, fresh condition, £4 11s; 16, fresh condition, Hereford, £3 16s; 24, P.A.. in good order, £3 12s Gd; 7G, Hereford and P.A., good store condition, £4.
I Two-Year Steers.—Seventy-; nc, well | grown, a fresh, even line, all P.A., £5 !12 s: 34. Hereford-P.A. cross, good fresh condition, £5 ss; 22, P.A., store to good condition, £4 12s. Grown Heifers.—Twenty-two, P.A.- ! Hereford cross, full of condition, £5 15s; 55, Hercford-P.A. cross, fresh con- ! dilion, £4 15s.
Three-year Steers—Eighteen, fresh condition, Hereford and P.A., £G Gs; 24. P.A., full of condition, £7 7s. Bullocks.—Nineteen, Hereford, forward, £7 17s. Beef The beef market was considerably easier than at the last sale, the highest price for cows being £8 IGs. Prices:— Cows.—Seven, PA., on account of Turihaua station, £8 8s; 9, Hereford, on account of Mr. W. Turnbull. £8 16s; 7, P.A., £6 13s; 7 P.A., (p) £5 10s; 10. Hereford, including four heifers, £B.
