Napier Telephone System

For the first time since the eaf'.hquake in 1931 the Napier telephone exchange was served by an automatic system on Sunday, the change being made on Saturday night. The old manual exchange, which had been in operation for the past eight years, was disconnected, the cables being cut as the new exchange was (brought in. The changeover was effected smoothly. The automatic exchange is housed in a new building behind the old wooden one in which the manual control was operated.
