Possible avenues of industrial expansion in Now Zealand were quoted by tiie Minister of Industries and Commerce, the lion. D. G. Sullivan, in a broadcast address fast nighlt. Referring to the decision of the Government to establish an iron and steel industry in Onekaka he said that the outbreak of war had caused difficulties in securing the essential machinery for starting operations in the meantime. The cultivation of sugar beet and the preparation and manufacture of salt were also potential new industries mentioned by the Minister.

Tie said he appreciated all the difficulties that beset manufacturers, but within the limits of the available sterling funds tiiey had received the greatest measure of consideration for their requirements.
