FRIGHTENED WARDEN

DRINK TO STEADY NERVES

LONDON, Oct. 26

Ex-air raid warden, John Breeze, accused at Sheffield Quarter Sessions of stealing some beer from if public house during an air raid warning, was said to have told the landlord when challenged : "I was frightened, and came in for a drink to steady my nerves." The recorder bound him over and said : "I take the view that he probably lost his nerve and thought the beer might steady him.”
