FINANCING WAR
SAVINGS CERTIFICATES BRITISH INVESTMENTS (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 12.30 p.m. RUGBY, Dec. 1. During the first week or the war finance campaign, 5,500,000 saving certificates, representing a cash investment of £4,125,000, and defence bonds valued at £5,000,000 were sold. The average weekly sales of certificates during the three months preceding the opening of the campaign were approximately £459,000. The number of national savings . groups formed or in process of formation during the week was 1226. The total for the whole of last year was 1527.
