AUSTIN’S TIME RECORD CHAMPION WITHDRAWS (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. G. L. Austin retained the Otago marathon championship on Saturday when he won a memorable race in 2hr. 28min. 33sec., the fastest time ever recorded in New Zealand for the full distance of 26 miles 386yds. R. Wilson, the youthful Mornington runner, caused a surprise in keeping with Austin for most of the journey and in finishing in second place in 2hr. 44min. Msec. R. Colston (Caversham) was third in 2hr. 47min. 20sec. The New Zealand champion, C. G. Giibbons, withdrew in a hopeless position after covering 20 miles. He has had little preparation and was troubled by his knee. Four out of the six starters completed the long journey.
