GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR VETERINARY STUDENTS. rpni3 Now Zealand Government lias *- dee id oil to giant for i 040 live veterinary Scholarships, each .Cloo per annum, with the addition, in the ease of students entering the Sydney University Veterinary School, of an annual return fare between New Zealand and Australia. The scholarship extends to students desiring to train at a Veterinary College in the United Kingdom, but in this case no transport allowance is granted. Intending applicants must have passed the University Entrance Examination, and preference will be given to those who Have passed the Medical Intermediate Examination (or its equivalent in the required subjects—Zoology, Botany, Physics, and Organic and Inorganic Chemistry). The scholarships are tenable for flve years for students entering the Sydney University Veterinary School, with a reduction to four years in the case of those students Whose qualifications i>- certain subjects entitle them to remission of the lirst year’s course. The duration of the scholarship for students training in the United Kingdom is five years, with a reduction to lour in similar circumstances,. Students attending the Sydney School will be required to undertake practical training in veterinary work in New Zealand to the satisfaction of the Department of Agriculture during the three months’ annual vacation. Successful applicants will be required to enter into an agreement with the Government that they will undertake veterinary work within the Dominion for a period of at least five years after qualifying, either in the services of the Department of Agriculture, if required, or otherwise in some capacity approved by the Department of Agriculture. In tiie selection of candidates, in addition to the necessary educational qualiflcaions, experience in connection with live-stock, will be regarded as important. Tiie first .session at the Sydney Veterinary School commences in March, 1940, and in the case of Colleges in tiie United Kingdom in October, 1940. Applications, addressed to the Director-General; Department of Agriculture.
