WAIKATO LIVE STOCK
STORE CATTLE IMPROVE Recent rains have had a beneficial efleet on pastures throughout the Waikato and as consequence farmers have operated more freely at various country sales. It was generally expected that any freshening of the pastures would result in an improvement in the store cattle section. This was very much in evidence at a sale of East Coast cattle held at Morrinsville during the week when a full yarding of grown cattle changed hands. Certainly in some cases vendors were looking for higher money, but any cattle passed in under the hammer were disposed of privately, practically a total clearance being effected. Had it not been for the rain these cattle would have met a very different reception. Although large entries of fat sheep are coming forward the price has more or less held steady, due to the operations of the exporters, while values for ewes and wethers have been maintained. Store sheep are sought but the quantities offering are fairly small, consisting chiefly of shorn two-tooth wethers. Good competition prevails throughout and there is no difficulty in effecting sales.
