GREYHOUND TRIALS
SOCIAL NFAVS IN FORM GOLDEN STREAK TWICE EARLY RACING SEASON <By "King Kong.") Gisborne greyhound owners held trials last week-end with a large number of dogs. The first of the day was over hurdles. giving Social News an easy win with Sunny Lass and Smoke finishing in that order. The only other hurdle race provided a win for Golden Streak, who has shown good form in Napier in the past season: the only other starter, Mollybourne, showed much promise as a hurdler. The first fiat trial proved to be a good one. a great tussle being fougnt out between Lucky Strike. Social Talk and Skyway. They finished in that order. Cordial King proved that he has not lost his old form as he showed a great turn of speed in the next trial in which Lady again ran unsighted. Sunny Lass indicated that she is returning to form when she led the way home to Erei and Blue Peter, finishing in that order. \ The next trial again found White Peak to the fore. The last race of the day provided another win for Golden Streak, thus completing a double, with Skyway a close second. Mid-Week Trials Further trials were held on Thursday night. The first event was over hurdles in which Social News gave a faultless display, while the only other two dogs starting ran off the course. The only other hurdle event was won by Smoke, with Peter the Great second, and Sunny Lass, who crashed through the hurdle, third. The next heat, on the fiat, was won by Social Talk, with Gay Step second. Buchanan again showed his consistency by winning another heat, with an unnamed dog by Paphian second. The following heat was won by Observer, with Past Mistress second, and the last heat was won by Bonny Glow, with Bonny Peter next. White Peak Dead Greyhound enthusiasts will be sorry to learn that the well-known greyhound White Peak was run over by a motor car and killed on Thursday. The Gisborne Greyhound Racing and Coursing Club intends to open the racing season on the Victoria Domain on December 14 with a full programme of races. Trials will be held as usual next Thursday evening, when an opportunity will be given for all dogs to qualify. Preparations also are being made for tin hare racing at the Te Karaka Sports on January 1.
