LITTLE FIREBLIGHT
ONLY TWO LOCALITIES POSITION IN GISBORNE LIGHT INFECTION / Following a severe outbreak in the GisbOrne district last season, the position in regard to fireblight so far during the present season is most favourable. Reviewing the position to-day, the orchard instructor, Mr. J. D. Kennedy, stated that only two light outbreaks had been reported so far, a very light one among a domestic orchard in Kaiti, where three apple trees had been cut out and destroyed; and a slight infection among William Bon Cretien pears, in a commercial orchard in Patutahi. Immediate steps were taken to combat these minor outbreaks, and no further reports had been received regarding the presence of the disease.
Mr. Kennedy- said, however, that there was still a danger from tip infection on new wood, but the fireblight committee and officers of the Department of Agriculture were keeping a look-out and any other outbreak would be dealt with immediately. >
