GISBORNE SHOW ESTIMATE ONLY £44 QUARTER OF LAST YEAR INCREASED EXPENSES Despite an increase in revenue at the recent Gisborne A. and P. Show, | the profit shown in an interim Show statement submitted to the association’s general committee to-day by the secretary, Mr. W. E. Chamberlain, was less than a quarter of that of last year, and totalled only £44. ! Donation of £IOO I Accounts totalling more than £I7OO | were approved by the meeting. One lot the items was an account of £O6 | Is 4d for the permanent installation of I hot water in the kitchen. However, the patron, Mr. H. G. Tucker, had given the association a cheque for £IOO to cover the expenditure,

'Mr. J. C. Graham said it was difficult to know how to cut down expenditure, which was rising all the time, and it was necessary to have an exceptionally successful Show to secure any profit at all. The secretary said that during the past few years, the association had averaged £2OO as profit from the Shows. In the past, the association had secured a'bout £4O from catering rights, which were given this year to the women’s committee for patriotic purposes.

Efforts Appreciated

The president, Mr. Roland Graham, thanked the executive officers for the work they had put into the .Show, mentioning particularly the secretary for 'his splendid organising ability, while the caretaker, Mr. F. T. Grafts, was to be complimented on his fine effdrt in the preparation of the grounds.

The ladies’ committee played a big part in the success of tlje Show, and he urged that the secretary should write individually thanking them for their help. He thanked also three of the past presidents for their part in the Show, mentioning Mr.. J. C. Graham, who was responsible for staging the block-test lamb class for the first time in New Zealand, Mr. H. G. Smith for attending to the axemen, and Mr. J. Eivers for marshalling the parade, which was one which any district in the Dominion might be proud.

The ladies’ committee which attended to the catering was well worthy of the highest praise, and had set a high standard for other caterers in the future, the president added. In conclusion, he spoke of the work of the patron, Mr. H. G. Tucker, and all those associated in preparing the grounds, particularly as -visitors had remarked that Gisborne had one of the finest showgrounds in New Zealand. Judges’ Congratulations

Several judges wrote congratulating the association on its splendid Show. Mr. V. McD. Hitchings, Otorohanga, wrote that it a great pleasure to work in such genial surroundings and the wonderful harmony in which all concerned worked. Mr. R. A. Hinton, Eureka, Waikato, congratulated the association on a successful Show, which was one of the most enjoyable he had attended and one of the best managed. He was much impressed by the fine ground, and was pleased with the horse section, in which he was a judge. A number of judges commented on the wonderful effort made by the ladies in charge of the catering and of the attention they received from the stewards attending them.
