Community Lighting

Sir, —I would like to ask the Power Board why the community lights under shop verandahs are not going earlier. While I write it is quite dark at 0.15 p.m. Were it not for shop window internal lighting, shop window’s would be very dark and goods not visible. Shopkeepers pay extra for same for lighting. Street lamps are alight out in the open before sunset. This should not be. I would ask the Power Board oflleer lo have a look around the shops and see for himself what 1 .say is true, 11. J. CLAYTON. Street lighting in the business area and community lighting are operated from the power house by the one pilot-wire, it was stated by a Power Board official to whom the above complaint was referred. The time at which they are switched on depends upon the hour at which daylight fades, which varies according lo atmospheric conditions.
