SECESSION OPPOSED
HERTZOG FACTION ATTITUDE TO EMPIRE (Reed. Nov. 28, 2.45 p.m.) JOHANNESBURG, Nov. 27. The former Prime Minister of South Africa, General J. B. Hertzog, and the former Minister of Finance, Mr. N. C. Havenga, refused to adopt secession from the Empire as a policy.
This halted the negotiations for an Afrikander Party between the Nationalists under Dr. P. F. Malan, who advocate republicanism, and the Hertzog group.
