AWAITING SUMMER
WAIKANAE FACILITIES MORE CAMP VISITORS “Everything is ready now for a busy season and we are still waiting for the hot summer weather to set in to start the bulk of the people bathing,” said the caretaker for the Waikanae Beacli Improvement Society, Mr. W. Gray, this morning.
The beach was looking better than for several years with its neatlyarranged manuka shelters down on the sand. The services of these shelters will be to divert the wind from the sun-bathers at the Waikanae Beach, and also will .be greatly appreciated by picnickers visiting the _bench for the day.
Although the takings at the dressing sheds were dawn compared with the same time last season, when swimming had an earlier start, the revenue in other departments controlled by the society was showing an increase. For the year to date 184 campers had passed through the camping ground from ail parts of the Dominion, said Mr. Gray, and at present there were 12 parties under canvas. The majority of the tents now there were occupied :by Gisborne residents and would be there permanently for the summer.
