With regard to the appointment of Major-General Bernard Cyril Freyfcr rg, V.C., C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., LL.D., as commander of the New Zealand Overseas Forces, it is interesting to record that Foxton possesses a resident who was in General Freyberg’s brigade during the last war. He is Mr. A. M. Cook, who is farming in Foxton. During the last war. Mr. Cook was a lieutenant in the R.N.V.R. Hawke Battalion, Royal Naval Division, and he knew General Freyberg; who was commander of the Hood Battalion in the same brigade. Mr. Cook expresses the opinion that the appointment of General Freyberg to his present position will prove very popular.
