TENT-MAKERS' CLAIM

SIR A. NGATA SUED HIRING OF MARQUEES SUM OF £369 INVOLVED (Pur Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A claim against Sir Apirana Ngata for hire charges on certain goods, expenses incurred in reconditioning some of the goods after their return, and also the possession of other goods not yet returned, was brought by E. Le Roy, Limited, before Mr. Justice Callan in the Supreme Court. In respect of the goods not yet returned, the plaintiffs made an alternative claim for their value in case possession could not be obtained.

There was no response when tire defendant’s name was called and he was not represented. Counsel said that, including the goods not returned, a total of £3G9 was involved, of which £IOO had been paid since the issue and service of the writ. A representative of the plaintiff company said the defendant had had many dealings with the company in regard to the hire of tents and marquees. The goods in question were tents and- marquees which had been ordered by the defendant in April and May, 1933, and had been sent down to regions on the East Coast.

His Honour gave judgment for the amount owing and for the possession of the goods not returned, or, alternatively, their value.
