BUSINESSMAN’S OFFER DOMINION WAR FUNDS DONATION OF PROFITS PERIOD OF HOSTILITIES
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. In an interview, the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, made reference to the action of p prominent business man, who had offered to donate to the war expenses account the whole profit earned by his business during the continuance of the war.
“This offer,” said Mr. Nash, “comes from a business man who is well known throughout New Zealand and who served with the force during the last war.
"He pointed out that he is no longer able to undertake active service, but is desirous of helping so far as he can by donating to the war expenses account the whole of the profit earned by his extensive business during the continuance of the war, decreased only by his living expenses and his present current commitments. The offer is extraordinarily generous, as, from the balance sheets produced by him to me, the donations are likely to amount to £2OOO or £3OOO each year.
“I mention the matter now in the hope that others who are anxious to help the Dominion’s war effort, but who are unable to serve in other ways, may be encouraged to adopt the same practical self-sacrificing method' of giving assistance.”
