SETTLEMENT HOPED
ABATTOIRS STRIKE DISPUTE AT SYDNEY (Elec. Tel. Copyright—Urilted Press Assn.) (Reed. Nov. 29, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 28. The strike at tire Hornebush abattoirs i.s approaching a settlement which is likely to-morrow, after a mass meeting of slaughtermen to whom terms for the resumption of work have been submitted on behalf of the Government. During the currency of the strike supplies of meat have been reaching Sydney from country killing centres. Thus there Ims been no serious shortage.
A message despatched from Sydney on November 23, stated that householders'in the metropolitan area were fearing a serious meat shortage as the result of a strike at the Hornebush abattoirs, where all work ceased that day. Tlie dispute began a week previously with the mutton slaughtermen, who demanded that a casual employee should be reinstated in his former position. The Industrial Commission intervened and formally deregistered the Meat Employees’ Union, the members of which called a general strike in all departments of the abattoirs.
