FEILDING RACES

THURSDAY'S FIELDS CHIEF EVENTS REVIEWED DU MAURIER FANCIED SINGLE POOL BETTING

By “Trenton”

The Feilding Jockey Club’s meeting will open to-morrow, and the single pool system of betting will be in operation. Quite a number of the horses engaged have shown good form at recent meetings such ns Napier Park, Stratford and Otaki.

Manchester Handicap The chief event, the Manchester Handicap, is headed by Wotan, who is reported to be getting back to his best. Tidewaiter has brightened up of late, according to reports, but may not be quite ready yet. Dainty Sue has been a disappointment of late. Charade won over this distance at Napier Park and should go well. The Bigot finished third to Rarotonga and Trebor at Levin, but he was four lengths behind the winner. Du Maurier would only need to repeat the form he displayed in running 'Taurangi to a head at Stratford to take all sorts of beating. Taurangi’s win a fortnight later in tile Waikato Cup makes Du Manner's’ chances apipear bright. Matnroa’s recent form has not been

good, but the remaining runner, Kaiwaka. lias form to recommend him. Tie was a close third to Taurangi and Du Maurier at Stratford at the beginning of the month, and made another appearance on the same day to finish second to Russian Ballet in the highweight. Flying* Handicap The open sprint has drawn a field of 10 runners. Amigo has recently resumed work and will hardly be ready. Flammarion was third at Levin over seven furlongs. Racecall now has 21b. more than when he finished third to Orwere and Farland at Te Rapa, and he was

fourth on the second day. He appears lo have excellent prospects. ' Russian Baiiet won a highweight over seven furlongs at Stratford. A repetition of Brunhild’s Riccarton form would make her dangerous. (Laughing Lass has done very little of late, but the form of Sleeveless at Riccarton was fair and she has had time to freshen up.

Screen Star failed over seven furlongs at Levin, but now has a handy weight. Old Bill may find the distance a bit short. Fiancee is a good class hack.

Minor Events Fossicker, a runner in the hurdles, was a winner at Napier Park. Both Little Robin and Kilometre are runners in the Trial Plate with placings to their credit. The former was second to Kehua at Otaki and Kilometre was third at Stratford. Indore was beaten by Kindergarten at Hawke’s Bay but is a smart galloper. Engaged in the same race, the Juvenile Stakes, is Ringling, who was third in the Juvenile Handicap at Stratford. Trench Law won easily over seven furlongs at Otaki and is engaged in the Kowhai Hack Handicap. Another runner, Regicide, will make a very strong appeal, as ho finished third in the open middle distance race at Otaki on Saturday. Saxon Tor wtis second at Stratford and Siglow occupied a similar position at Otaki, and both are engaged in the Fitzroy Hack Handicap.
