AMATEUR ATHLETICS
SEASON AT GISBORNE OPENING ON THURSDAY ELECTRIC LIGHT SPORTS Arrangements for the opening oi the season were under consideration at a meeting of the committee of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harriei Club last evening. It was reported that the preparation of the grounds was well advanced and with good entries coming forward the prospects were bright for an attractive programme at the electric lis lit sports on the Childers Road Reserve on Thursday evening. There were present at the meeting Messrs. W. H. James (acting chairman). A. Kane, A. I. McAneney. M. Taylor, S. Parker and J Tangney (lion, secretary). An apology foi absence was received from the chairman. Mr. R. J. Quinn A donation of £1 Is was received from the natron of the club. Mr. T. R Gordon.
Mr. L. R. Franks was ejected as a member of the club
The following programme for the season's second meeting to he held on Tuesday was approved: lOOyris. Schoolboys. 100yds. Schoolgirls. 100 yds. Ladies' Handicap. 220yds. Senior Men’s Handicap, 75yds. Junior Handicap. 1320yds. Men’s Fiat Handicap, 880yds. Junior Cycling Handicap. 1 mile Senior Cycling Handicap, 1 mile Senior Cycling Scratch Race. Javelin Throw Handicap, Men’s Hop. Step and Juhrp Handicap, Ladies’ High Jump Handicap. Entries close with Messrs. Fitzmaurice and Butler on Saturday.
