DOLLAR CREDITS

NEW ZEALAND’S POLICY CONSERVATION SOUGHT ASSISTANCE FOR BRITAIN

Action is being taken by New ’ Zealand to conserve dollar funds to > assist Britain to finance the purchase ' of war materials from tire United 1 States. This information has been 1 given to the Bureau of Importers by 1 tiie Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. ; Nash. Owing to the uncertainty of the continuation of the Dominion’s trade with j- the United States the bureau recently j sent the following telegram to the , Minister: —"As America is not pre- ) pared to accept the New Zealand , Government's system of time payment, all goods from the United States must now be paid for before shipments. Is

the Government making arrangements to provide for funds for immediate payment to cover licenses issued for importations from America?" The Minister, in his reply, stated that consideration would be given to individual cases according to circumstances, but the Government’s policy was to ensure the maximum conservation of dollar funds to assist the efforts of the United Kingdom in connection with the European conflict.
