SLOWING DOWN

PUBLIC WORKS PLANS GRADING OF JOBS CHANGING CONDITIONS MR. SEMPLE EXPLAINS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The preparation by the Public Works Department of a new plan of operation designed to meet the changing circumstances was announced by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple.

This plan will grade the work at present under construction and an easing off in construction will be based on the result. Important work of particular value to the nation or to various parts of the country will not be stopped, but work may be slowed down on other jobs.

Mr. Semple said that the land improvement schemes were to be extended and men already were being transferred to this work. He emphasised that there would be no slowing down on certain jobs, such as irrigation, which were of great value to the farming community and to the productiveness of the nation. Key jobs would not be stopped.

Work on the Gisborne railway line, which already was so well advanced, would be carried on.'
