Rowing Club Building Site

A proposal that the Gisborne Harbour Board should permit the use of a portion of Read's quay esplanade, adjacent to- the town end of the railway bridge for a building site by the Gisborne Rowing Club came before the board to-day. It was pointed out that the dub would face the necessity of rebuilding its premises in a few years, at most, and that the site now occupied was gradually becoming less useful for the purposes of sport. Members of the board were sympathetic with the proposal, but pointed out that the Gisborne | Returned Soldiers’ Association now j occupied the site desired by the row- | ing club, and that no arrangement j could be entered into which would disturb the privilege enjoyed by the association. It was decided that the rowing club should be asked to put a definite plan before the board, indicating incidentally what it would J propose to do by way of clearing the j site.
