MAORI BATTALION

FIRST STEP TAKEN RECRUITS ENTER CAMP (Per Pross Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The first step in the preparation of the Maori battalion for active service was taken to-day when 150 Maori recruits entered the army school at Trentham to train as commissioned and non-commissioned officers. An intensive course of instruction will prepare them to take over their units when the men for the ranks are called up for training early in the new year. The departure of the 19th Wellington Battalion for Waiouru to undergo a fortnight’s advanced field training has been postponed till December 2.
