OBVIATING TROUBLE
ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY STOPPING LINE LOSSES APPROVAL IN WAIROA (iSoedal to tlio Hurald.) WAIROA, this day. A scheme i'or overcoming the voltage difficulties which were experienced in the Wairoa Borough during the past winter in connection with the electric-power supply, was submitted to the Wairoa Borough Council at its monthly meeting in a joint report by the borough’s electrical engineer and the engineer to the Wairoa Power Board.
The recommendation made provided that instead of the Power Board duplicating the 3300-volt line from its substation to the borough boundary, it should be replaced by an 1100-volt line from the board’s sub-station to the borough yard. It was suggested also that the board’s 1250 k.v.a. transformer and equipment should be shifted from the board's sub-station to the borough yard, from where the power would be distributed throughout the borough.
The effect of this would be, it was stated, that the borough yard would be made the central distributing agent, for the high tension, and would eliminate all voltage difficulties.
Riderring to the report, the eh u:man of the electricity committee, Cr. M. J. Gemmell, said that to do '.'.•hathad been suggested previously was going to cost about double what this scheme would cost, and another great advantage of this scheme was that when it had been given effect to there would be no line losses. On the motion of the Mayor, Mr. H. L. Harkcr, the council agreed to the recommendations set out in the report, which is to be submitted to the Power Board l'or its consideration.
