SHOPLIFTER GAOLED

YEAR FOR A WOMAN “CUNNING THEFTS” (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Convicted on all charges of shoplifting. Annie Adalia Albertha Le Compl OTlanlon, aged 57, was sentenced by Mr. J. Molding. S.M., in the Police Court to-day to two months' imprisonment, to be followed by 12 mopths’ reformative detention. Defending counsel, Mr. Aekins produced a telegram from OTlanlon’s daughter in Christchurch stating she would give her a home lor life if her j mother were given another chance, j Mr. Aekins asked that she be shown j the utmost leniency.

The magistrate said that accused had already served a sentence for shoplifting and had committed these thefts over a lung period in a cunning and methodical way. Site might be termed a professional shoplifter.

On each of nine charges, the prisoner was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment to be followed bv 12 months’ reformative detention, the terms to be concurrent. On the remaining 11 charges she was convicted, and discharged. An order was made for the return of the goods identified. The police said they would endeavour to trace the ownership of the unidentified property.
