SINK-AT-SIGHT PLAN

NAZI PROPAGANDA MOVE LONDON, Nov. IG. Naval authorities in London say that stories emanating in Berlin about unrest in the U-boat command should be treated with suspicion, although they have some significance as indicating a campaign for a “sink-at-sight” policy. The mere fact that the stories have been allowed to be cabled direct from Germany to Now York suggests a sinister motive. According to these stories, U-boat commanders and U-boat crews demand release from the obligation to emerge on the surface before torpedoing merchantmen, because of the excellence of the British air patrol system. This is regarded as propaganda for a "sink-at-sight" policy. It is conceded that some commanders may want to be “unrestricted." but that is not unrest in the sense of opposition to authority.
