VALUING BEGINS

GISBORNE WOOL CLIPS EIGHT BUYERS ARRIVE 7000 BALES AVAILABLE COAST VISIT QUESTION The first war-time appraisement of tlie Gisborne-wool clip commenced in the town display stores this morning, when eight valuers were busy. One of the eight engaged is of French nationality, one is from Wellington, and the remaining six are from Christchurch. Their names are: —Mr. C. H. Fiat, France; Mr. C. H. Carlton, Wellington; Messrs. A. E. Baker. N, E. Le Gren, N. Kunzli, A. Smith, W. M. Wilson and J. Leonhard. Christchurch. Mr. Smith is the chief valuer for the party at present in Gisborne.

Valuing commenced in several of the stores simultaneously, for included in the party are experts on different types of wool. It was not known this morning how long the Gisborne appraisement would take and when the valuations in Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay would be made, but it was thought that the work in town would be completed before the week-end.

An announcement in newspapers in the cities gave the Tokomaru Bay date as December 5 and that for Tolaga Bay the following day, but the telegraphic advice received in Gisborne two days ago that the two Coastal centres would be visited on the present trip is definite, and that arrangement has not been altered.

Appraisement on the Coast

The total wool available in Gisborne for the present appraisement is approximately 7000 bales. At one time it was hoped that a larger quantity would have been ready, but although a definite tally has not been made of the totals from the individual brokers the quantity is not expected to be much greater than /OhQ bales.

At present the schedule of values is not available, and growers will not know just how much their wool is worth until this comes to hand. The wool at present is being appraised in regard to types, and the prices being arranged in the schedule will be in accordance to type.

It is reported that 20,000 bales of wool are available in Wellington for the first appraisement there on November 28, when an appraisement will proceed in Napier simultaneously.
