PIANO RECITAL
TALENTED DUETTISTS PAUL & DINNY SCHRAMM A wide range of melodies of a distinctive appeal provided the basis of a programme presented in the City Hall yesterday afternoon by Paul and Diny Schramm, talented visiting pianists, whose specialty is two-piano renditions of the works of outstanding composers. The audience was substantially made up of piano students, to whom Paul Schramm gave a short talk upon musical compositions and their appreciation. He emphasised that in the sphere of music every emotion is expressed in forms both subtle ami blatant, and that those wishing to find expression for the joy of life or indeed of any emotion need not feet that their search would be rewarded only in the comparatively recent development of jaz?. and swing music. The speaker enumerated some of the outstanding examples of emotional compositions, illustrating their mure expressive passages brieliy, and then proceeded with his partner to a presentation of several works. The use of two Pianos in the performance of these compositions revealed nuances which in solo performances are not easily discoverable. The audience was delighted as well as deeply instructed by the demonstration. which, while covering a considerable amount of ground in the realm of music, gave special prominence to pieces of lighter character.
