Last Night's Forecast
General Situation.--A depression is moving eastward off the Domini >n and the barometers are now rising slowlv over most of the country.
Forecast. —Winds chiefly From between west suid south, force moderate to fresh but decreasing exceot on parts of the east coast. Seas in New Zealand waters slight or modenrie. with moderate southerly swell south of Castlepoint. In the eastern Tasman Sea. light to moderate winds from the westerly quarter, but with northerlies freshening later in the southern portion. Seas slight to moderate. Expect some further scattered rain in eastern districts south of the Bay of Plenty, otherwise mainly fair to cloudy. Conditions gradually improving generally, however, and temperatures rising slowly.
To-day’s North Island Report
Cloudy and overcast conditions were general in the North Island this morning, the wind having dropped to light southerlies, with an easterly tendency to the south of Gisborne. The barometer had a rising tendency. Temperatures at 9 a.m. were:—Auckland, 59 degrees; Tauranga, 78; Opotiki, 04; Gisborne, 05; Napier, 57; Wellington, 51. Seas were smooth to slight to the north and moderate to rough to the south. Midday Forecast General Situation: Pressure continues to rise slowly over the Dominion and a weak anticyclone is now centred in the south. Forecast: Light to moderate southerly winds predominating, some further rain but conditions improving. Temperatures: Moderate. Seas: Slight.
