FINAL GALLOPS
WORK AT ELLERSLIE PHARELON IMPRESSES (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Heavy rain fell at the commencement of the final gallops at Eller.slie yesterday morning, but it cleared be- ‘ fore work was resumed after the breakfast interval. The course proper, on which the poles were out 40ft, was used for fast work, and the going was excellent. Among the horses to impress were Phaleron, Maioro and Bronze Fire over half a mile. Biddy Girl over five furlongs, and Ivy Wilionyx over a round. Silver Quex finished clear of Waitarma at the conclusion, of five fur-, longs in l.(j 1-5, the first taking 12 3-5. Bronze Fire worked better than usual while traversing half a mile in. 51 2-5. the last three furlongs
taking 39 2-5. Trevace was kept up to his work to finish in front of British Talent, over five furlongs in 1.(1, the last halfmile taking 52 4-5. Pern and Silver-stick were companions over a mile run in 1.47 3-5 They went fast early, the first half being covered in 51, but they were eased right up over the last furlong. The best half-mile was credited to Phaleron, who had a bit in reserve after recording 51 1-5. This colt has done well since winning at Avondale.
Finished Clear With Royal Huntress to bring them home over the last seven furlongs in 1.34 3-5, Ivy Willonyx and Royal Appellant covered a round in 2.8. Ivy Willonyx finished clear of the other pair, though Royal Appellant was doing his work in good style. Spinning Wheel, Cintrace and Whenua were in that order at the end of seven furlongs, which Spinning Wheel ran in 1.33. Cintrace got several lengths the best of the start, but Spinning Wheel beat him easily, her time being 1.34, Biddy Girl impressed by finishing clear of Pasture over five furlongs m 1.4 2-5, which was the best of the morn ing over the distance. Biddy Girl ran her last three furlongs in 39.
Miss Appellant came home from the six furlongs in 1.20 3-5 without being seriously bustled. Sebrof ran two furlongs in 25 4-5, and continued on to complete five in 1.0. This hack is in solid racing condition.
Nightbeam impressed more than Night Pilot over the concluding stages of half a mile in 53 3-5, the last three taking 40. Maioro reeled off half a mile in 51 2-5, a smart effort
