WOMAN CLERK’S THEFT
SENTENCE DEFERRED INQUIRIES BY JUDGE (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. When Doris Jones, a clerk. Waipukurau, appeared before Mr. Justice Blair in the Supreme Court yesterday for sentence for the theft of sums of money totalling .6637 from the Waipukurau County Council, she was remanded for another week. She pleaded guilty at Napier and was remanded to Wellington for sentence, so that her case could be considered. In the meantime, His Honour said, he had instituted certain inquiries before coming to a decision, and these had not been completed. “There are certain features of your case that are giving me trouble,” he added. “I am sorry to keep the matter hanging over your head. I don’t want to prolong it. but a certain field of inquiry is not yet completed, and I will have to adjourn the case for another week.”
